Cupping is an ancient technique, used in many cultures, in which a special cup is applied to the skin and held in place by suction. The suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, which may either be left in place or moved along the body. Cupping brings fresh blood to the area and helps improve circulation. Traditional cupping, sometimes referred to as “fire cupping," uses heat to create a vacuum-like suction inside of glass cups. In modern times, cups that use a small pump to create suction have also been introduced.

There is a one time $25 cost of 6 glass cups charge for fire cupping with Acupuncture.

There is a one time $35 cost of 10 Piece Deluxe Cup Set charge for non-fire cupping with Acupuncture.

Cupping is similar to the effects of a reverse massage. Instead of pressing on the tissues under the skin, cupping lifts the skin to promote blood flow and healing to the underlying tissues. We use both glass cups and plastic cups. To ensure all around safety, we have each patient purchase their own dedicated set of cupping cups that we disinfect in-between treatments for sanitation. This ensures we are not exposing our patients to blood borne pathogens.

We use cupping most commonly for pain, muscular tension, and upper respiratory conditions. Once the cups are applied, skin and muscle tissue are drawn up into the cup thus promoting the flow of blood and restoring healthy circulation. Cups are normally placed along acupuncture points or moved along the meridians.

Cupping may leave purple or red marks on the skin which usually disappear within 3-5 days.

Please note that high blood pressure that is not controlled disqualifies you as a candidate for cupping.
